About the role:
Are you a trained college advisor or professional experienced with under-represented high school and college students?
Are you passionate about supporting the fastest growing minority group of next generation leaders?
Do you want to help students get into the right college, and learn the tools to finish their degree?
If so, join us on our journey to economically empower La Próxima Generación (the next generation) of Hispanic youth.
We are the Michigan Hispanic Collaborative (MiHC), a nonprofit organization working to break the cycle of Hispanic poverty by accelerating their economic mobility through education and early career program support. Our La Próxima Generación program supports students over the course of ten years, from Junior year in high school through college and early career during critical transitions in a Hispanic student’s life. Our goal is to help Hispanic students matriculate to 4-year colleges, graduate with an employable degree, and enter the workforce with a stable career path.
We are looking for highly organized, responsible, and dedicated individuals who have strong writing, interpersonal and workshop facilitation skills, and can execute projects with little direction. In this role, you will serve as a guide, support, and accountability partner for high school or college freshman/sophomore students. You will meet with students one-on-one, providing guidance as they navigate the complex world of college access and persistence. You, along with other staff, may lead workshops and special events to further support our students.
We are looking for a leader who is self-motivated, agile, organized, and most importantly cares about the work we do and the students we serve. As such, cultural competency skills are important in this role. The successful candidate(s) will be able to work independently and collaboratively, based on the nature of the project. The coach will report to the program manager.
With your help, we will be one step closer to our goal of economically empowering Michigan’s Hispanic community.
