Democracy Matters (DM) is a non-partisan, national student organization committed to giving students a strong voice in politics. DM students are a powerful force for social change and social justice. With a small financial stipend, and with training, mentoring and support from the DM staff, interns create Democracy Matters chapters on their own campuses that promote and implement student activism.
DM students fight for progressive change. We work to protect democracy from present threats and to create a truly inclusive and fair political system. We support reproductive rights and oppose voter suppression, climate change, and the big corporate money that is destroying our future and our dreams.
DM students choose and create innovative programs to educate and mobilize others, register students to vote, build coalitions on campus, lobby elected officials, organize discussions and events, and much much more.
Democracy Matters provides interns with a wide range of materials, funding for campus activities, and opportunities to connect with DM interns across the country. DM interns gain leadership skills, and a life-long passion for leading social change.
Applicants should have a passion for learning how to reach and involve others, respect for and willingness to listen to others’ points of view but also the ability to stand up and speak out for what they themselves believe, and a strong desire to work with others for social justice. No special experience is required. We encourage undergrqaduates of all years and majors to apply.
