DESCRIPTION
Days End Farm Horse Rescue is hiring an energetic camp counselor to work with us this summer. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with children and love working outdoors in a high-energy and fun environment. Camp counselors play an essential role in our Legacy Horse Camp and help kids reach their full potential while having a fun summer with our horses. Camp counselors will work with students ages 7-17 in a fun, hands-on learning environment. This position will allow candidates to make a positive impact in the development of youth.
Days End Farm Horse Rescue’s camp runs June 17, 2024 through August 9, 2024 and is closed the week of July 4th. Each day will begin at 8:30AM and end at 4:30PM, Monday – Friday. Working as a camp counselor at DEFHR represents a unique opportunity to work at a progressive organization that is passionate about inspiring and making a difference in the lives of youth and horses alike.
This program is ideal for those interested in outdoor and environmental education, agriculture education, elementary or secondary education or equestrian instruction. The ideal candidate will have a ‘can do’ attitude, be an enthusiastic leader and show excitement in working with children. Horse experience is not required.
Counselors will be paid $15.00/hour.
Housing is not provided. Counselors must have their own transportation.
SCHEDULED DATES
This position would begin with a two-day orientation the week of June 10, 2024. Camp operates June 17 through August 9, 2024 and is closed the week of July 4th. This position is 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Execute lessons and activities to keep campers engaged and active
- Set-up and breakdown of space, including cleaning up and organizing materials for the day
- Collaborate with staff to maintain a supportive and structured environment for the campers
- Serve as a leader and aid in execution of camp schedule for the day
- Communicate with management staff regarding any needs or issues that may arise
REQUIREMENTS
- At least 18 years of age
- 2+ years experience working with children and youth preferred
- Horse handling experience preferred, but not required
- Highly energetic leader with a positive and enthusiastic attitude
- Able to create and execute a plan
- High degree of organizational skills and problem-solving ability
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility/adaptability: Adjusts quickly to changing priorities and conditions
- Skilled in time, organization and stress management
- Committed to child development
- Excels working in a team environment
- Participate enthusiastically in all activities, modeling and helping to engage campers
- Promote positive attitude, teamwork and safety
