Volunteer Legal Coordinator Position Description:
Black Voters Matter is looking for a legal volunteer coordinator who will help to build out our 501c3 Program. This program recruits volunteer attorneys to assist our community partners in formalizing their nonprofit and obtaining their 501c3 status.
We’re looking for emerging leaders who are passionate about strengthening capacity in local communities to sustain powerful grassroots movements for social change at the local, state, and federal levels!
We are in the process of building out our volunteer program, which means we need people who are innovators, collaborators, and solutions driven people.
Duties:
- Research the process to formalize a nonprofit and obtain a 501c3 status
- Conduct intakes for community partners who request assistance. Provide notes and feedback on intakes. Ensure community partners are informed and prepared for the process.
- Write case summaries for each intake
- Support the recruitment and onboarding of volunteer attorneys
- Conducted monthly check-ins and follow ups with community partners and volunteers.
- Update and maintain resource library for volunteers and community partners
- Ensure all case files are updated and accurately inputted into our volunteer management system.
- Contribute to storytelling efforts for every closed case.
- Support with other tasks as needed.
Background and Qualifications:
- Legal background is a plus (paralegal, law student, legal assistant, etc.)
- Experience working with nonprofits is a plus
- Strong organizational and time-management skills and the ability to manage a flexible schedule
- Self-starter who takes initiative and is comfortable working remotely
- Client interview skills a plus
- Customer service orientated and reliable
- Passionate and commitment to the mission, vision and values of Black Voters Matter
