As an international student myself, I know how hard it can be to find jobs and internships. Don’t be discouraged if you can’t find the job in your country? Are certain jobs geographically restricted? I’m going to suggest a job search platform now that is more accessible to people worldwide-That is Interstride, a career platform designed specifically for international students studying and seeking opportunities in the U.S. and worldwide!
To find it search INTERSTRIDE at my.pitt.edu. Click the button, enter your Pitt email, and voila! You’re in.
Now, feast your eyes on a smorgasbord of content that is as diverse as the cafeteria menu during international food week. We’re talking Jobs, Internships, Networking, Learning and Tools. Navigate the buffet using the bar at the top of the page.
After that, let’s talk about the JOB button at the top. Click it, and you’ll find yourself in a land of opportunities. An informative video will greet you, teaching you how to navigate this new world. On the left-hand side, you’ll find menu of filter options. Choose your desired location, company type, and more. It’s like online shopping on Amazon, but instead of clothes, you’re picking out your future by your hands! See the job you like? Don’t be shy, just click the red “apply” button. If you’re redirected to a different website, don’t panic! It’s not a glitch in the matrix. Some companies just prefer to host applications on their own websites.
Wondering about wages? Who isn’t? Check out the US VISA INSIGHTS to see average salaries at different companies. Google and Amazon are both on the list!
If you’re feeling homesick or adventurous, the COUNTRY INSIGHTS let you explore cities around the world. Learn about work opportunities, local culture, and even where to get the best coffee and meals for you!
Now, onto the NETWORK page. This is a chance to connect with professionals who’ve walked in your shoes. Filter by profession, education, or city, and start making connections. Remember, you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take!
The LEARN page is like a treasure in the sea. Here you can learn about application requirements, OPT, CPT etc.
Lastly, on the TOOLS page fill out the CAREER GAMEPLAN questionnaire. It’s like a mirror, reflecting your strengths and weaknesses. Use it to improve your skills, avoid pitfalls, and plan your next steps.
