Summary of Responsibilities

This position is responsible for processing of human and or simulated white and red blood cell components, including preparing pools for production lots. Responsible for performing other duties as assigned by management.

Essential Duties and Functions

  1. Complete check-in of incoming raw material.
  2. Process incoming white blood cell raw materials by washing, treating, and fixing the material. Additional processing duties such as diluent additions, centrifugation, incubation, and aspiration according to standard operating procedures.
  3. Prepare sterility samples and other tests at designated stages using proper aseptic techniques. Perform final counts and scans and interpret technical data for component material.
  4. Ensure sterility requirements are met for final component material to be transferred on specified due dates and adhere to the production schedule.
  5. Strict adherence to work instructions to ensure processes are completed accurately.
  6. Strict adherence to established Quality Systems and documentation as they pertain to manufacturing activities.
  7. Complete all appropriate documentation necessary for traceability of materials including component batch files and lot information accurately, legibly and in a timely manner.
  8. Maintain aseptic work areas and proper clean room sanitization using aseptic procedures including washing hands when entering and leaving the laboratory and throughout processing.
  9. Report all problems, procedure or process issues, or personnel concerns to management.
  10. Comply with all departmental and company safety procedures and regulations (including FDA and ISO regulations).
  11. Provide input on improving established procedures for production through cost, time and labor-saving ideas.
  12. Attend all departmental functions including any meeting to discuss production problems or new products.
  13. Interface with other departments involved in production when necessary for the purposes of communicating and working towards solutions to production problems, planning, and scheduling of workloads, maintaining adequate inventory of solutions and labware, and coordinating equipment schedules.
  14. Other duties as assigned by management.

Position Requirements

  • Field of Study: Science related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum Requirements: Associate degree. Previous applicable experience can substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Must be dependable, well organized, possess good interpersonal skills, and be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Prior laboratory experience helpful.

Technical Competencies

  • Knowledge of and ability to operate machines, equipment such as: Masterflex Pumps, Centrifuges, Hematology Instruments, microscope and more.
  • Ability to track numerous samples utilizing a number of different instruments and maintaining printouts.
  • Ability to accurately measure, pour and/or decant liquids.
  • Ability to begin to anticipate and analyze problems and recommend corrective action.
  • Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and the Employee-Right-To-Know program.

Work Environment/Travel Demands

The work environment is a climate-controlled biological/chemical laboratory. Occasional short durations to cold temperatures inside walk-in coolers. Ability to wear required laboratory clean room clothing (laboratory coats, hair bonnets, and beard covers (as applicable) and other safety/protective equipment (masks, gloves, and/or face shields for example) for up to two and a half hours consecutively. Travel demands for this position are estimated up to 0%. If travel is required, this travel may include customer visits, events/trade shows, and completion of presentations primarily throughout Domestic US or International regions.
Employees must comply with all travel recommendations regarding “safe travel” according to company policies and guidelines, and all federal, state, local, and international orders.

Physical and Mental Demands

Medium work exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. This also includes standing for up to two and a half hours consecutively, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, reaching, stooping, fingering, and grasping. Expressing and receiving detailed information through written and oral communication. Also has an ability to make sound, appropriate, and prompt decisions within the guidelines of the role.
