Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in providing exceptional patient care and supporting the optometric practice’s daily operations. You will assist optometrists in performing eye examinations, managing patient records, and ensuring a smooth workflow within the clinic. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of physiology and anatomy, as well as experience in patient care and retail sales.
Responsibilities
- Welcomes patients and visitors in person or on the telephone, and answers or refers inquiries.
- Serves patients by greeting and helping them, scheduling appointments, and maintaining records and accounts.
- Optimizes patients’ satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone.
- Keeps patient appointments on schedule by notifying providers of patients’ arrival, reviewing service delivery compared to the schedule, and reminding providers of service delays.
- Comforts patients by anticipating their anxieties, answering patients’ questions, and maintaining the reception area.
- Ensures the availability of treatment information by filing and retrieving patient records.
- Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information.
- Obtains revenue by recording and updating financial information, recording and collecting patient charges, controlling credit extended to patients, and filing, collecting, and expediting third-party claims.
- Maintains business office inventory and equipment by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders for supplies, verifying receipt of supplies, and scheduling equipment service and repairs.
- Protects patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of medical, personal, and financial information.
- Maintains operations by following policies and procedures, reporting needed changes.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Gather medical history information from patients
- Explain the examination process to patients
- Administer tests to determine visual capabilities
- Perform vision therapy exercises or procedures with patients under the direction of an optometrist
- Monitor inventory in exam rooms and the laboratory
- Keep notes during examinations
- Help with minor repairs of glasses and contact lenses
- Advise patients on frame selection and take measurements for lens preparation
- Perform minor maintenance and repair of examination and office equipment
- Must be reliable and punctual
Qualifications
Education:
- High school or equivalent (Preferred)
Experience:
- Optometric Technician: 1 year (Required)
