Northside Academy for Early Learning, a ministry of Northside Baptist Church, is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic, and fun early childhood professional to serve as a preschool teacher. The school’s mission is to “protect, provide, and prepare young learners in a Christ-centered environment” while demonstrating the love of God to children, families, and the community.Key Responsibilities
- Classroom Management & Supervision: Teachers are responsible for managing daily classroom functions and supervising all staff assigned to the room. This includes ensuring the environment is pleasant, orderly, comfortable, and encourages growth and exploration.
- Curriculum & Development: Teachers must plan and implement daily curricula, assess child development on an ongoing basis, and maintain written records to evaluate individual children and the class as a whole.
- Childcare Routines & Safety: Staff must ensure that routines—such as eating, napping, diapering, potty training, and hand washing—are carried out promptly, hygienically, and consistently. Safety must be maintained through constant supervision, proper space arrangement, equipment maintenance, and the regular practice of safety drills.
- Licensing & Discipline: Teachers must operate in compliance with all childcare licensing standards, specifically those prohibiting corporal punishment. Positive, consistent discipline must be used, and any suspicion of abuse must be reported to the administration.
- Parental Communication: Teachers are required to maintain regular communication with parents regarding their child’s experiences through daily or weekly reports and scheduled conferences.
- Child Guidance: Teachers should provide positive guidance to help children develop self-help skills and self-discipline, while promoting opportunities for self-expression through play, creativity, and conversation.

- Participate in staff meetings and share information from state-required workshops.

Limits of Authority
- Independent Action: Lead Teachers may independently assign staff responsibilities, modify daily activity schedules, rearrange classrooms, discipline children, and discuss child activities with parents.
- Approval Required: Prior office approval is mandatory for transferring children between classes, ordering new equipment, taking time off, referring parents to outside resources, or changing staff shift hours.
Requirements
- Education/Experience: Must possess a degree in early childhood education or meet North Carolina Rule .0710, plus experience working with children.
- Professional Skills: Must be capable of supervising assistant/part-time teachers, recognizing and recording group and individual behaviors, and handling crisis situations with sound judgment.
- Physical/Personal Attributes: Requires physical stamina (including floor mobility), emotional maturity, stability, and the ability to relate sensitively to children’s needs.
- Schedule: Must work at least two-thirds of the center’s daily operating hours, equivalent to eight hours per day.
