POSITION SUMMARY
“We are seeking an individual skilled in column chromatography and purification of native proteins from human sources. This position would require the Lab Technologist to work in a bench lab role. The candidate should have a good working knowledge of the physical properties of plasma proteins, isolation techniques and buffers. Proficiency in analytical testing and immunochemical gel techniques is preferred. A background in polyclonal antibody production is advantageous.”
Organizes and performs a variety of procedures in the processes of preparing high quality antigen products for Nittobo America Inc., under general supervision, through a variety of scientific techniques, instrumentation, and disciplines by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs protein purification methods to produce high quality ligands and antigens for immunization, with minimal supervision.
- Prepares gels and isolates antibody contaminates.
- Utilizes chromatographic (i.e., SEC, IEC, affinity) or protein precipitation (salt, polymer, affinity) methods to accomplish purifications, gel conjugation.
- Uses immune- or electrophoretic methods to determine purity of antigens and/or antibodies.
- Conducts feasibility testing as directed and using appropriate assays, evaluates antigens from start to finish.
- Conducts buffer compilation and preparation.
- Documents findings and prepares complete, clear and concise scientific records, for internal distribution.
- Analyzes data for statistical significance and draws conclusions. Also maintain a notebook of results, including purification scenarios summarized in flowchart form.
- Prepare monthly report/flowchart covering antigen preparations and various projects as assigned.
- Trains Laboratory Technicians as required.
- Facilitates implementation of new and/or revised methods
- Participates in special projects as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to be successful in this position:
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S) from a four-year college or university in immunology, biochemistry, chemistry, or life science (master’s degree preferred); and 3-5 years of related experience and/or training; supervisory experience is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret SOPs, technical procedures, operating and maintenance instructions, and other procedure manuals. Ability to maintain accurate detailed written documents of methods and results of projects, and to prepare reports while effectively presenting information and respond to questions from management and all other employees.
- Intermediate lab skills, computer skills, proficiency in commonly used software programs for work processing, spreadsheets, and databases and the ability to maintain complete, clear, concise scientific records. Proficient with the company ERP system; following training.
- Requires the ability to follow established procedures, work with limited supervision and to plan work activities from general directions.

Pay: $28.00 – $32.00 per hour
