The John Michael Kohler Arts Center (JMKAC) is a nationally acclaimed visual and performing arts center located in the heart of downtown Sheboygan, Wisconsin. JMKAC establishes a community locally and nationally with its rotating, original contemporary art exhibitions, live performances and events, classes, workshops, and on-site preschool.

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and customer service-oriented Public Programs Assistant to provide support for JMKAC’s Public Programs, including Education, Preschool, Performing Arts, and Special Events/Hospitality.

About The Role

Reporting to the Deputy Director of Programming, the Public Programs Assistant works collaboratively with the programming departments and provides resources and administrative support for JMKAC experiences. This position supports the programming’s effort to deepen the mission of the Arts Center and meet strategic goals. Showcase your organizational skills and high attention to detail as you provide administrative support, schedule tours, manage logistics, and provide exceptional customer service at programming events.

Work Schedule: Full-time Monday – Friday, daytime and evening hours, plus Saturdays and Sundays as required to meet business needs and staffing for planned events.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Provide administrative support, including but not limited to notetaking at meetings, keeping calendars up-to-date, and researching/booking travel arrangements and logistics for artists and programming.
  • Oversee mailings, registration, invoicing, phone calls, and payments for Preschool, classes, camp, and workshops
  • Coordinate scheduling of K-12 field trips
  • Organize and maintain inventory and supplies for Public Programs and maintain Safety Data Sheets
  • Assist with labels and didactics for Exhibitions and Programming
  • Attend curatorial briefings and provide tours when needed at the Arts Center and Art Preserve.
  • Provide record-keeping support for programming, including upkeep of contact lists, evaluations, and surveys.
  • Oversee invoicing and processing of purchase orders for all programming

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma
  • At least one year of customer service
  • 3-5 years of office administrative experience supporting multiple programs or departments is required
  • Prior administrative experience in arts administration or nonprofit is preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • A Bachelor’s degree is a plus, but not required
  • Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation are required

Specific vision abilities when performing this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.

Able to read and interpret documents, write routine correspondence, and speak effectively with others. Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers. Able to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Able to deal with problems involving few concrete variables in standard situations.

The position is office/art gallery-based, and the noise level is usually moderate. May occasionally work inside or outside at events where noise levels could be moderate to loud. The position works at various locations, depending on the schedule. This position must be able to commute between locations if needed.
