Overview: We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Speech Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) specializing in pediatrics to join our healthcare team. As a crucial member of our pediatric therapy department, you will work under the supervision of licensed speech-language pathologists (SLPs) to provide therapeutic support to pediatric patients with communication and swallowing disorders. Your expertise in speech-language pathology techniques, dedication to patient care, and ability to engage children in therapeutic activities will contribute to their communication development and overall well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
Therapeutic Interventions:
Implement individualized speech-language therapy activities and exercises as directed by licensed speech-language pathologists to address pediatric patients’ communication and swallowing needs.
Assist with speech and language development, articulation, phonological skills, expressive and receptive language abilities, fluency, and pragmatic language skills.
Use age-appropriate therapy materials and tools to engage children in therapeutic sessions and promote effective communication and swallowing function.
Patient Evaluation and Progress Tracking:
Assist in conducting initial screenings and assessments of pediatric patients to evaluate speech, language, and swallowing abilities.
Monitor and document patients’ progress, functional outcomes, and treatment responses accurately and in a timely manner.
Collaborate with speech-language pathologists to modify treatment plans based on patient progress and therapy goals.
Family and Caregiver Education:
Provide education and guidance to parents, caregivers, and family members on speech-language therapy techniques, home exercises, and strategies to support pediatric patients’ progress and communication skills.
Ensure families understand therapy goals, treatment plans, and strategies for incorporating therapeutic activities into daily routines at home and in community settings.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work collaboratively with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and achieve multidisciplinary treatment goals.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers regarding treatment progress, goals, and recommendations for ongoing therapy and support.
Compliance and Documentation:
Adhere to all regulatory and organizational policies, procedures, and standards of care related to speech-language pathology practice.
Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient evaluations, treatment sessions, progress notes, and billing information in compliance with healthcare regulations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Speech Language Pathology Assistant or Communication Disorders from an accredited program.
Certification as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA).
State licensure or eligibility for state licensure as an SLPA.
Experience in pediatric speech-language pathology settings preferred.
Knowledge of pediatric communication disorders, speech and language development, and therapeutic interventions.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact compassionately and effectively with pediatric patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
