Overview: We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) specializing in pediatrics to join our healthcare team. As a vital member of our pediatric therapy department, you will work under the supervision of licensed occupational therapists to provide therapeutic interventions and support to pediatric patients. Your expertise in pediatric occupational therapy techniques, dedication to patient care, and ability to engage children in therapeutic activities will contribute to their development and well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
Therapeutic Interventions:
Implement individualized occupational therapy treatment plans designed by licensed occupational therapists to address pediatric patients’ developmental, sensory, motor, and cognitive needs.
Conduct therapeutic activities and exercises to improve fine motor skills, sensory processing, coordination, self-care abilities, and social interaction skills.
Use age-appropriate therapeutic equipment and tools to engage children in therapeutic sessions and maximize therapeutic outcomes.
Patient Evaluation and Progress Tracking:
Assist the occupational therapist as needed in conducting initial evaluations and assessments of pediatric patients to determine functional abilities, deficits, and therapy goals.
Monitor and document patients’ progress, functional outcomes, and treatment responses accurately and timely.
Collaborate with occupational therapists to modify treatment plans based on patient progress and therapy goals.
Family and Caregiver Education:
Provide education and guidance to parents, caregivers, and family members on therapeutic techniques, home exercises, and strategies to support pediatric patients’ progress and independence.
Ensure families understand therapy goals, treatment plans, and strategies for incorporating therapeutic activities into daily routines at home and in the community.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work collaboratively with occupational therapists, speech therapists, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and achieve multidisciplinary treatment goals.
Communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers regarding treatment progress, goals, and recommendations for ongoing therapy and support.
Compliance and Documentation:
Adhere to all regulatory and organizational policies, procedures, and standards of care related to pediatric occupational therapy practice.
Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient evaluations, treatment sessions, progress notes, and billing information in compliance with healthcare regulations.
Qualifications:
Associate’s degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
Current certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA).
State licensure or eligibility for state licensure as a COTA.
Experience in pediatric occupational therapy settings preferred.
Knowledge of pediatric developmental disorders, sensory processing, and therapeutic interventions.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact compassionately and effectively with pediatric patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members.
