  • Follow companies and creative directors on LinkedIn, Instagram, etc., and comment thoughtfully on their posts 
  • Ask for a Zoom chat with Alumni working in media and the arts
  • Create a public portfolio of past and current work
  • Attend professional association meet ups like AIGA, PRSA, AMA, or Ad Club chapter meetups
  • Reach out directly on LinkedIn to Marketing coordinators, editorial assistants, junior designers, content producers, etc. to learn about their roles

Master industry-standard tools-Learn field specific technology like data analytics, InDesign, or SalesForce to enhance your skills set and show your initiative


Pitch Story Ideas to Local Publications-Research newspapers, magazines, or online outlets and submit article proposals or creative content to get published and build credibility

Enter Competitions and Submit to Festivals-Apply to design contests, film festivals, or advertising awards to gain recognition, receive professional feedback, and add accolades to your resume

Shadow Professionals for a Day-Arrange job shadowing experiences at ad agencies, production studios, or newsrooms to observe daily workflows and ask real-time career questions

Start a Passion Project Outside Assignments-Launch an independent documentary, design a mock campaign, or curate an exhibition to demonstrate self-motivation and creative vision beyond coursework
