A Message from the Career Center

My name is George Ampratwum, and I’m proud to serve as the Executive Director of Pitt’s Career Center. As we head into the holiday season, I want to remind you that the Career Center is here to support your student every step of the way on their career journey.

The holidays are a perfect time for career conversations – but let’s face it, they can also be tricky. Students appreciate feeling supported, even if they don’t always welcome advice. Sometimes, simply listening can be the best approach. Try starting a casual conversation with questions like:

  • What subjects or classes have you enjoyed the most
  • What kind of people or teams do you like working with?
  • What projects or teams have been the most exciting or meaningful for you?

Encouraging them to think about their interests and strengths without judgment can lead to valuable insights.

Some of the best career connections come from you!  Friends, colleagues, or family connections can help your student explore potential paths or industries. The upcoming winter break is a fantastic time to set up coffee chats, informational interviews, or job-shadowing opportunities. Who in your network might inspire or guide your student toward the next step?

At the Career Center, we provide comprehensive support for Pitt students:

  • 1:1 Career Guidance: Our Career Consultants help with résumés, applications, skill-building, and more.
  • Online Tools: Assessments, LinkedIn Learning, mock interviews, and internship resources are just a click away.
  • Events & Employer Connections: We host fairs, panels, and site visits with employers who already know how incredible Pitt students are.

Encourage your students to use these resources and remind them that it all starts with a visit to careercentral.pitt.edu or dropping by the second floor of the William Pitt Union.

Thank you for being part of your student’s support team. Together, we’ll help them reach their goals, build confidence, and find their path.

Hail to Pitt! Hail to Possible!
George
